SPECIAL EDUCATION - HISTORY
Hammond Baptist Special Education School is part of the Hammond Baptist School System. We have a short, although proud history, going back to January of 2001.
For many years, it was the burden of our former pastor, Dr. Jack Hyles, to provide the same love and training for our special education members that are given to all other members of the First Baptist Church of Hammond.
For decades the First Baptist Church has been meeting the spiritual needs of our special needs children, young people, and adults. The Blind, Sunbeam and Pathfinders departments are among the oldest and largest Sunday school departments of their type in the nation.
We believe that it is Gods will that we extend the experience, love, and burden, that we have acquired over the last four decades, to our special needs students during the regular school week.
It is our intention to provide for the educational needs of our special young people, while at the same time providing for their spiritual needs.
The strength of our special education program is not in its facility or its limited financial support. We cannot compete, nor do we intend to complete, with many well-funded special needs programs available today. However, we do have the power of the Holy Spirit in our classrooms. We do have the power of prayer in our classrooms. We do have the unlimited outpouring of Gods love in our teachers and staff. In these areas we can and will excel!
Philippians 4:13, I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me., will be our constant companion as we work through the special challenges of life together in the special education classes.
We believe that Hammond Baptist Special Education School is as unique as each childs needs. We believe that it is Gods will for us to make this class available for your child. Here your child will be treated with the deep, abiding, agape love of God.
