"Years ago Christian education was an alternate. It was another choice. It was one of several alternatives from which parents could choose.
This is no longer true. With the deterioration of our schools, Christian eduaction is a necessity. There is no other alternative.
However, Christian education is not
a cure-all. It is not a substitute for the home; neither is it a substitute for the church. Its main function is to see to it that young people can be educated in an atmosphere and in a philosophy that will not be contrary to what is taught at home and at church. It is to prevent the tragedy of a student spending 35 or 40 hours a week having that which is taught in church for a few hours on Sunday destroyed in his classroom. When the parents diligently instruct the child, and when the church diligently preaches and teaches the Word of God to him, and when the school educates him without destroying what is taught at home and at church but rather reminds and underlines teachings of the home and church, then the purpose of Christian education is fulfilled.
To that end, we dedicate ourselves at Hammond Baptist Schools." -Dr. Jack Hyles, Founder of Hammond Baptist
"I was looking forward to attending Kahler Junior High when Brother Hyles told the church of his dream concerning Hammond Baptist Schools. I fondly remember those early days cleaning out an old building in Ross Township that was to become Hammond Baptist Junior/Senior High School. They were great days. Everything was new and exciting. We were a small but feisty student body. Our sports teams didn't win many games but we enjoyed competing. Dr. Billings was inspiring as well as caring. Everybody loved him. The years have come and gone. I've had the opportunity of attending every graduation service Hammond Baptist has ever had. This has been and is a great place filled with great people who still inspire and care for their students. My wife and I both have graduated from this honored place. Our two children have also graduated. My hope and prayer is that they will continue on loving their school as their parents have." -Dr. Eddie Lapina, Youth Coordinator of the First Baptist Church of Hammond
"Of all age groups, teenagers are probably the most enjoyable group of people with which to work. They have the most original and spontaneous humor. I love their enthusiasm very much. Their enthusiasm has helped to lighten my burdens over and over through the years. These years at Hammond Baptist High School have been challenging but also very rewarding to work with our teenagers. I have loved it.
People may seem diifficult to deal with, but helping people is very rewarding. Many times the problems are seemingly insurmountable, but the problems get solved and it is very rewarding.
I have many hopes and dreams for the students of Hammond Baptist High School. I long for them not only to excel in the classroom but also to have strong spiritual goals. It is my personal prayer that our young people will always serve the Lord no matter what vocation God chooses for their lives." -Dr. Don Boyd, Former Principal of HB HIgh School
"While I was a senior at Hyles-Anderson College I purposed in my heart that I would not apply for a teaching job anywhere. I wanted God to call me to a school, and when I was called, I promised God that I would never leave that school until He called me elsewhere. That place turned out to be Hammond Baptist High School. It was the beginning of a new life for me, my wife, and my children. The junior high became a separate school from the high school in 1976.
Every activity of our family life has been centered around First Baptist Church, and Hammond Baptist High School and Junior High School. We have invested our money, our children, and ourselves. God has blessed us more than we could have ever imagined. I cannot think of a better way to spend one's life than in the center of God's will. I thank Him from the bottom of my heart for giving me my loving wife, my wonderful children, and this great ministry in which to spend my life." -Dr. Tom Vogel, Former Principal of Hammond Baptist Junior High School
